By Rob B Nelson

Do you have a bad credit record? If so, maybe it's the right time to correct the situation. Focusing on repairing your credit rating will be great help for the future. Assisting anyone, and especially young people in their twenties who may have spent and borrowed without realising that the future can be adversely affected. Money worries can have bad consequences on a persons state of mind and general health.

Other family members such as a wife or children can also suffer.

The first place to look for help would be within your own family or close relatives. Without realising it you may have know someone who has been in the same situation that you are facing so talking to family and relatives could well turn up the answer to your problem.

An even better result would be that a relative is qualified in helping people with financial problems and can help quite easily.

The second place to look for help would be the library or book shops. Educating yourself through reading books on the subject is quite easy to do and borrowing the books from the library means you can do it for free rather than purchasing books. The best idea is to look for books with titles such as: The Basics of... or, The Beginners Guide to... or, First Steps To... Another good idea is to borrow 4 or 5 books to start with because if you take only one, you could find that it is too advanced or you cannot understand a thing the author is writing about.

A third place to look would be your local polytechnic and high school. Often, these types of institutions offer classes in credit repair, budgeting and similar subjects. Check in your local paper, library or community notices. Sometimes you may have to pay a small fee.

The next idea would be a professional credit repair advisor. Such a person would be expensive and is probably only needed in extreme cases or when time is of the essence. Try to find a governmental agency that provides professional assistance for free or at least at a much lower cost. An advisor or credit repair expert can even go as far as contacting all the companies you owe money to and working out a payment plan that suits your budget and is acceptable to a particular company.

The best thing that this will do is to stop legal action against you, as the companies that you owe money to will see that you are trying to repay your debt with them. Preventing debt collection or repossession agencies from taking all your worldly goods is a high priority.

A professional could even advise you to take out a debt consolidation loan in order to pay creditors immediately, leaving you to concentrate on paying only the one loan. The main advantage to this is that you may end up paying less interest.

While you are repaying the loan and to help you even further, your credit repair expert may be able to offer you assistance in managing your finances better in the future so you never have a repeat of your current predicament.

Here's hoping you can learn something and get your finances on track.
